Why is the curl command that the oauth tool offers me producing a 401 Unauthorized?

My app has read/write permission and the oauth tool in the application management area gives me a supposedly working curl call, but when I try to execute it, the server tells me

  <error>Could not authenticate with OAuth.</error>
  <request>/1/statuses/update</request>
</hash>

Any ideas, why?

Resolved.

Apparently ‘Could not authenticate wit OAuth.’ can also mean ‘You forgot to add the format (.json/.xml) to the url.’
