What does MoPubView.setTimeout() do?

I was looking for a way to limit waiting time for an Ad to load. I stumbled upon MoPubView.setTimeout(long millis) and thought this would be the way to go. However, the value I set there was ignored. The Ad continued loading instead of failing. Is there any way to control the maximum loading time for an Ad ?
