Yes, it stinks that the widget preview STILL isn’t working when it’s just a tiny bit of code that needs adding.

When pasting the code onto your site page you need to edit the code slightly. On the bit where it says; “//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js” add http: to the front of it so that it says; “http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”

It should then load the widgets JavaScript and work ok on your site. Unfortunately this doesn’t fix the preview.

I’m getting this widget preview error message as well, and any new widgets I try to generate simply don’t work. Last week, however, none of this was an issue; previews and widgets worked just fine. I’m not doing anything differently now.
Please advise.
UPDATE: Nevermind, figured it out by fixing the problem in the code. See https://dev.twitter.com/discussions/11125
Would be great if you guys could correct this however.

Our engineering team has found the issue with the preview tool and is working to resolve it – don’t have an ETA on when the fix will make it to production though.

When you say that none of your widgets are working now – are you saying they aren’t functioning for you on your site any longer? If so, do they fail with a specific error message?

Taylor, the site containing the embed code simply generates a “Tweets by @User” link; clicking the link doesn’t render anything. Many thanks for investigating.

We’re having a similar problem, not sure if there’s a quick fix? On our site where our embed code is, it just displays ‘Tweets by @teenage_market’ rather than generate the widget: http://www.theteenagemarket.co.uk/index_new.html

I’ve double checked the code and the javascript file has the correct ‘http://’ prefix before it. I’ve also double checked the widget options and our website is included as the correct domain for the widget to be featured on.

Is there a solution?

I’m also having the same problem in that it just displays the tweets by @name could really do with this working today as I have a site ready to show a client.

As soon as I go to the widgets page to create a new widget or edit an existing (previously working) one, this error message appears before I even change any of the default settings.

“Was unable to generate a widget preview with this configuration. Some of the settings may be in an invalid or unexpected format.”

So it seems there is a system error right from the start of the process.

Hi all,

Just thought I’d post an update. The preview issue within the widget creator seems to have been resolved (two days ago). For the problem of the embedded widget not showing tweets but rather the message “Tweets by @user,” here’s a solution that worked for me:

The code that’s generated is

Tweets by @StellaBastone

– I added https: just before the //platform.twitter.com/widgets.js line. This fixed the problem and my widget now works on my (Blackboard) site.

Because you have a protected account. Go to settings and uncheck “protect my tweets”
