V2 equivalent of https://api.twitter.com/1.1/users/search.json

Hi all,

Is there an equivalent of this in v2: https://api.twitter.com/1.1/users/search.json

I cannot see one.

What I am trying to so is find a Twitter username by their actual name (taking into account the number of followers they have) to try and get their Twitter username.

Unfortunately no, unless you have academic access, and then it’s maybe - because it’s a filter rule for a stream, not a search

For academic access, an alternative is to use the Filter stream, with the bio: and bio_name: operators Filtered stream - How to build a rule | Docs | Twitter Developer Platform but remember that this will match tweets so the user has to be actively tweeting for you to match the user, you cannot discover accounts otherwise.

Should that URL for v1.1 still be working (https://api.twitter.com/1.1/users/search.json), or has it been deprecated?

It still works yeah, it’s rather limited and there’s no deprecation timeline posted by twitter so it’s fair to assume it’ll be at least months before anything happens.
