Hello everybody,
I have a question regarding using the geographic information in the tweets. I see there is such a restriction in this case:
“Your license to use Twitter Content in this Agreement does not allow you to (and you will not allow others to) aggregate, cache, or store location data and other geographic information contained in the Twitter Content, except in conjunction with the Twitter Content to which it is attached. Your license only allows you to use such location data and geographic information to identify the location tagged by the Twitter Content. Any use of location data or geographic information on a standalone basis or beyond the license granted herein is a breach of this Agreement.”
But this is extremely vague to me and I cannot understand what I am not allowed to do with the tweets. Could somebody give me an example of a task that is allowed and a prohibited task with tweets geographical data?
Sure. For a real-time UI of Tweets in a map, that’s ok. We have sample apps that plot Tweet sentiment into a globe, for example.
Do not long-term store Tweets (this is actually a statement beyond the geo question; if you store Tweets you must also respect compliance if they are deleted, and thus we ask you don’t store more than the Tweet ID). Do not build apps that use geo data from Tweets over a longer period.
Makes sense?
Thank you for the explanations. In my case study which is a university research project, I am going to collect geolocated tweets in a particular region for a month and then analyze change in 1) the number of tweets, 2) their more fine-grained location, 3) sentiments, and 4) mobility pattern of people. Is this allowed?
You should read the developer terms of service. I don’t see a particular concern with that description but as a developer you are responsible for making sure you meet Twitter’s terms.
