Help me understand.
What could be the problem leading to Users losing a huge chunk their following. And the instability on Twitter analytics in terms of previous day numbers changing. Could it be as a result of the instability on user accounts and their following?
I can’t talk about analytics, but when large changes in friends / followings happen it’s usually for a few reasons:
Sometimes this happens when an account is switched from private to public or gets suspended or deactivated and re-activated again - this is mostly an eventual consistency problem and counts come back to normal. I imagine analytics sometimes suffers from this problem too - things are eventually consistent, but may show up with wrong counts occasionally.
Whenever there is a large group of accounts suspended is another reason: Usually you can align this with the transparency reports: Platform Manipulation - Twitter Transparency Center or specific events: Disclosing new data to our archive of information operations
Also, sometimes, large groups of people simply unfollow an account organically.
