There doesn’t seem to be a solution and Twitter won’t respond. Tweet @twitter using this hashtag #widgetprobz. I’m hoping that if enough people complain they’ll do something about it.
I had this problem and after I’d looked through every help forum I could find, I finally found the answer: turn your add block off and click refresh. Should work straight away! It did for me anyway.
I’ve been having trouble integrating my Twitter widget into my Wordpress.com account. Here is the Wordpress Tutorial. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/twitter-timeline-widget/#widget-id I was doing everything right except for “Configure Widget” step. I was placing the short code into the widget ID field but all you need there is the widget number (the long number you see in the URL while editing your Twitter widget). It works for me now. I’m not an IT person so I really appreciate non IT jargon in troubleshooting forums. Hope this helps everyone like me. Go to www.averyconnections.com to see how I did it.
I was having trouble with a Twitter Widget displaying on a client’s Drupal site. Every time I edited something else in the block that contained the widget code, and saved the block, the widget would be gone and I was left with "Tweets by … ". I had to replace the code to get it to work again. Then I discovered that it was the twitter-widget-id number that kept disappearing from the code. How can I stop that from happening?

I’m working on my own drupal site now and the twitter timeline is disappearing if it’s placed in a sidebar region, its also blocked when the adblock plus plugin for firefox is activated. Placing the timeline in the content region works fine. No idea why the id number disappears but perhaps this gives you a clue. Deactivating adblockplus is of course no solution I guess twitter should dive into that one.
