Twitter Video support in REST and Streaming API

Tweets that contain Videos hosted by Twitter. Since a few weeks now it is possible to attach short Videos to Tweets. One example would be this Tweet.

I’m not seeing any extended_entities for twitter search (or streaming?) API:

https://api.twitter.com/1.1/search/tweets.json?q=%23twittervideo&include_entities=true

returns responses with no extended_entities, but if I take one of the post ids returned and grab the status by itself it’s there:

https://api.twitter.com/1.1/statuses/show/575449731519795200.json

I’m also repoing what @danblaisdell mentions above: extended_entities is not returning in the REST Search API. What is the timeframe for this being enabled?

Same here.

Using the REST search API and I don’t get the extended_entities in the result JSON. As mentioned above, it works if I make a API call to eg ‘statuses/show/{id}’, but it would be a bit cumbersome to do that for each tweet in the search result…

@andypiper, @pi_kumar Can an update be given about when or if extended_entities will be added to the REST search API?

Great question - as you’ve seen right now this isn’t returned in the main search API - I’ll see what we can find out, but nothing to announce at this time.

Given Twitter’s recent acquisition of Periscope, are there plans to integrate live streams into this API? I have a client that would LOVE to have live streams embedded on his page.

Any updates on this? The twitter search API still doesn’t return extended_entities for videos.

I don’t believe that there’s any change in this area at present and cannot share any plans for the search API to be updated, apologies.

Does that mean that Twitter just doesn’t care at all about the search API for third parties? Because, sorry to say so, this is the only interpretation that this statement allows, given that this is now that way for a very long time and the search endpoint is basically missing all extended entities… The only way to get around this, is to search and lookup all tweet id’s that could contain Twitter Videos (including GIF Videos), which is not a great solution, really.

I’m sorry you feel that way - I wouldn’t say that’s the “only” interpretation, but I understand that you and others are frustrated. As I said, all I can say for sure right now is that there has been no recent change in the Search API to provide this data. I’m as keen for this to change as you are, but I don’t have the ability to make it happen instantly. Apologies.
