Twitter tweet/ share count not updating ?! stuck at 0!

#1

Hi, I am using Twitter’s tweet button to allow visitors to share the url of my page along with some custom text. However, despite the link having been tweeted/ shared 10+ times (during testing and in the past), the displayed count stays at 0. However, when I click on it, it opens the results page that bizarrely shows 2 tweets (instead of 0 or 10+). The code (shown with a mock url here) used is:

<a href="https://twitter.com/share" class="twitter-share-button" data-url="https://www.mywebsite.co.uk/myPage/" data-counturl="https://www.mywebsite.co.uk/myPage/" data-count="horizontal" data-text="Check out this webpage--- ">Tweet</a>
<script>
  !function(d,s,id){
      var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=/^http:/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';
      if(!d.getElementById(id)){
          js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+'://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js';
          fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}
  }(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs'); </script>

Strangely, if I remove “***https://***” from the data-counturl the count increases to 5 and clicking on it shows a results page with 3 results (and not 5 or the actual 10+ tweets).

Note: I have tested using curl -I and the server accepts HTTP HEAD requests. So, that is not the cause of the problem.
