Twitter Search API 'geocode' Results

I was attempting to map tweets in my area, and after collecting tweets for a few days, I ran into some strange issues with the results from the Search API. Though I’m requesting a 10 mile radius around a given lat/long, after mapping the results I seem to be getting back only a quadrant of a particular radius.

What’s even stranger is that when I moved the center point of the search a little north and east, and ended up with this: http://i.imgur.com/onv0FOf.jpg

Is the Search API just broken? Is there something else I should be trying?

@EricArenson did you manage to get this resolved as I am writing a similar program and having issues with returned search numbers.
