We are able to create the Twitter Player Cards. They go through the Validator Tool without a problem. But they don’t look like many that I see on Twitter in which the image is full. The ones we are creating always shows the video size similar to an image size you would find on Summary Cards (vs Summary Cards with large image which is what we are trying to achieve). I also want to confirm you no longer need to have videos whitelisted. Is that correct? I ask because there is never the “request approval” button on the Tool Validator card.

Here is the URL that we are currently working on: E3 Campus Instructional Playbook | Leading Virtual Instruction – E3 Alliance

Whitelisting and approval have not been required for several years.

The small thumbnail that you click on to expand the player is the expected behaviour for a player card like this.

Thank you for replying. I figured the whitelisting requirement expired but in searches, I see it over and over and even on Twitter documentation. So thanks for confirming. When you say it’s expected behavior for a player card like this, what is “this?” I see plenty of Player Cards that show the full image like a summary card with large image. Is there another way to produce the video that allows for the large image? Thank you!

Wow you’re right - I thought we’d fixed those documentation pages! I will put that on my list, and apologies for the confusion here.

Can you provide a link to a Tweet with a “full image” player card? It might be that they are Ads cards.

I think what I’m seeing is that videos less than 2 min 20 seconds are full screen. Is that why? And does it matter on videos under the time if you make Player Cards or upload the video directly? They will be full screen no matter what?

Thank you!

I can confirm that both of those Tweets contain video that was uploaded directly to Twitter and so they play inline in the timeline and appear differently than a player card attached to a web URL.

Thanks.

Andy, I have one more question. Why won’t the Player Card appear on Mobile? It works on the desktop no problem but when we look at it on our mobile, it just shows a link - no image at all. We’ve all updated our apps. Also, when I make a summary card large, the image won’t fully show on the mobile device.

I’ve just had a look at this in a test Tweet and I’m seeing the card in the Tweet detail via in the Twitter iOS app, but not in the timeline view. I have to admit that is not what I expected and I’m not sure why that is happening. Are you using Twitter for iOS or Android? Note that cards do not show in third party Twitter apps, unfortunately.

I am using Twitter for iOS but other staff members have Android and they are having the same problem. We are not using 3rd party twitter apps.

I’ve been searching through Twitter to find videos that that appear in the Timeline that are longer than 2min 20sec. CNN Newsroom is a great example. @CNNnewsroom. Somehow this works for them. Can you advise how to correct or point me elsewhere to find a solution? Thank you!

They are using a tool (Snapstream TV Search) which has access to Twitter’s pro media features (Media Studio). This is a whitelist-only feature and is not widely available.

OK. Then is there no way to produce a player card that allows the video to show in the timeline on any mobile device? Thanks!
