Twitter app permissions has been changed, but user permissions for app does not change

At first, the app was configured for “Read only” access. Some users logged in to the app, so they have the app with “Read only” access.

Then, the app configuration is changed to “Read, Write and Access direct messages” access. When some of the previously mentioned users log in and the app asks for a new access token, in the user’s applications settings (https://twitter.com/settings/applications) the app still have the “Read only” access.

The only way I found to change that is to manually revoke the access from that settings page, and log in again with the app. In that case, the settings page shows the new app permissions.

But I can’t ask to every previously logged user to do this.
How can I do this using the API?
