Tweet images via href

I have seen many topics and articles about this, but most ones are outdated.

I want to tweet an image using a link, like https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text=

When I do this with imgur, it will become a link and no image displayed. Is it possible to do this, or do I have to wait for Twitter to update and add this feature?

If you use a web intent popup to post a Tweet, you will not see an image preview and you cannot directly attach an image. If you include a URL that has Twitter Cards markup in the body of the Tweet, an image may be displayed in the resulting Tweet.
