Tweet counter not updating, stays at 0

We have tweet buttons on our website, example: http://en.japantravel.com/photos/dainichiji-konan-city
On the front-page http://en.japantravel.com/ you’ll see a Twitter widget somewhere in the right column, where you can see more examples of articles which have been tweeted. But when I visit these articles, I see the counter stays at 0.

The following is the code I am using to implement the tweet button, using the http://en.japantravel.com/photos/dainichiji-konan-city values:

You can check these values if you check the page source and check the generated URL for the iframe.

I have checked the HEAD response, and the counturl one is giving me a 200 response, so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

I have just simplified the code, and put the full URL in the data-url property, and the permalink URL in the counturl property. I noticed that it only works and counts properly when I remove the counturl property.

Is there any reason why adding the counturl property breaks the counter?! The permalink does not redirect to the full URL though, but it is a link that will stay valid, even when the slug has been changed, which is what the purpose is for the counturl, right? Or am I seeing things wrong?

Sorry if I sound frustrated, but this has been bothering me for weeks!
