Would be nice if the tweet source label was actually a live link.

Hi Jessica, I’ve suggested it in the Twitter UserVoice platform.

What I’m saying is the tweet source labels for tweets posted using the POST statuses/update endpoint (v1 API) should link directly to their respective external URLs:
