We’re currently seeing intermittent problems w/ SSL certs for api.twitter.com. The issue started around an hour ago. Some of the time, the cert that’s received is a Symantec signed cert, issued for twitter.com. The rest of the time, we receive the correct Verisign cert for api.twitter.com. All of the problematic requests have originated from our EC2 US-East data center.
Thanks for the report! We did just make a fix for this, and you should no longer be suffering from the issue. Please let me know if it recurs.

One of the servers is serving the certficate for twitter.com instead of api.twitter.com
