Significance Of Since ID

Can you please elaborate on this:

“since_id optional: Returns results with an ID greater than (that is, more recent than) the specified ID. There are limits to the number of Tweets which can be accessed through the API. If the limit of Tweets has occured since the since_id, the since_id will be forced to the oldest ID available.”

Does it mean, if the tweets(on twitter for a screen name) are passed 200 tweets since my last fetch, the API will return me latest 200 tweets even if I use Since_ID that is dated beyond the latest 200 tweets?

I’m not sure if I understand the question, but I’ll give it a shot.

If you made a request to a timeline without using since_id, and the most recent tweet you got back had the ID “abc” then, after some time has passed, you can use that most recent tweet ID “abc” as your since_id value to statuses/user_timeline. You would then get (up to 200) of the most recent tweets posted by that user “since” they posted tweet “abc”.
