Searching tweets: exclude a country

I am using the advanced search of Twitter. I’m trying the exclude the tweets written in latin america. I have added the minus symbol before the near keyword:

-near:“Quito, Ecuador” within:600mi

Unfortunately that is an invalid query for Twitter.

I wonder if that is possible with the API (our with another tool!)

That query syntax is not supported by the API.
