Rules on UTF8-MB4 emoji characters

Hi, I was wondering what twitter’s rules are on displaying tweets with UTF8-MB4 (aka iphone) emoji icons. Most devices outside the Apple ecosystem have limited to no support for 4byte UTF characters. The app’s system I’m working on only supports regular UTF8. I want to remove these from displayed tweets instead of the white UTF placeholder box that appears. Is this acceptable? I can’t find any rules about the handling of these special characters.
