Retweet Count

How is the retweet count maintained? Is the count always connected to the original tweet? In the sense, if I have retweeted a tweet from Twitter, then someone else retweets the same tweet from my wall, what will be the retweet count?

Since my Twitter account was “upgraded” about a week or 2 ago, my Retweets & Favorites are not counted when I click on them, on other people’s profile pages. I also can no longer see other people’s Retweeted comments, as I used to be able to do. This is a big loss of enjoyment of my previous Twitter experience.
