Update as of August 15, 2022: We’re giving 30 days notice for the formal deprecation of Likes, Collections, and Moments timelines. We plan to retire them on September 15, 2022. For more details, read below.

-Update as of May 6th, 2021:
We plan to extend the Embedded Like, Collection, and Moment Timelines deprecation beyond June 23rd. This move will hopefully allow developers to make a smoother transition away from these timelines towards the supported Profile and Lists Timelines. Once we have a new retirement date, we’ll update this forum post. In the meantime, please let us know if you have any questions on our forums.

Today we’re sharing our plans for the future of embedded timeline widgets. The timeline widgets give you the ability to embed a series of Tweets (known as a timeline) on your own website.

As part of a company-wide effort to deliver an even better experience, we performed an analysis of the various embeddable timelines available.

During our analysis, we discovered the overwhelming majority of users choose to embed Profiles or Lists: comprising 99.48% of domains that embed timelines. Only 0.52% of domains who embed Twitter timelines use the Likes timeline, Collections timeline, and Moments timeline.

Here’s is an example of the Collections and Likes timelines:

Because of the low usage for the Likes, Collections, and Moments timelines, we plan to retire them on June 23, 2021. This change will not affect the more than 99% of people using embedded timelines, and we will continue to focus on delivering value through our more utilized Profiles and Lists timelines.

If you are currently using a soon-to-be-retired timeline, consider updating to a Profile or Lists timeline by visiting publisher.twitter.com.

Once these timelines are officially retired, you will see the timeline return a link to the Likes timeline, Collection timeline, or Moment timeline on Twitter. Here’s an example of how a retired Collection timeline will return:

If you experience issues or have any questions, please post in the Twitter for Websites category on the developer forums and someone from our team will respond as soon as they can. You can also refer to our documentation for supported implementations of embedded timelines and best practices.
