Summary

Following our launch of City Targeting via the Ads API in October, Twitter has launched City Targeting within Ads.Twitter.com as of April 21st.

As a part of this launch, as of April 21st, we have recategorized a portion of existing Metros and converted them to Cities. This recategorization represents a more accurate label for these locations and provides alignment with our broader City Targeting offering.

  • For example: Rome, Italy will transition from being labeled as a “Metro” to being labeled as a “City”.

Moving Forward

Please note that we are only changing the label of location type and this transition will happen automatically with no impact to campaigns that are targeting these locations.

With that being said, we wanted to specifically flag a few items to avoid any disruption:

  • Targeting criteria label will change from “Metro” to “City” for all impacted locations

  • Analytics segmentation will change for all impacted locations. You will need to utilize CITIES segmentation rather than METROS

  • We recommend refreshing your databases by pulling from GET targeting_criteria/locations

Let us know if you have any questions.
