Ad previews render with ‘Read more’ call-to-access. We’re using the Twitter Ads API to report on our campaigns. We also provide ad previews in our reports and recently they are rendering with this CTA that we can’t remove or edit from Twitter’s UI.

This is the JS file we’re using to generate the ad previews: platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Hi,

Could you please confirm that you believe the CTA button should NOT be shown for this ad format? Is it a Website Card? If you could paste an example of the Account ID and Card ID you are rendering a preview for (or the exact call to tweet/preview endpoint) it would make sure that we are reporting about the correct issue.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

I was informed by your team that call-to-action buttons have been removed last year. We would like it if they still existed, but they show up in the UI, so we believe they shouldn’t show up in the API either because it’s confusing.
Please have a look at the following example:
Tweet card id is 808710595826610177
Account id is 18ce53yltux

This is how the ad is rendering through the API:

This is how it looks on people’s timeline:

John, do you have any updates on this?

@Iulia_Gh: To answer your question, we no longer render the CTA for website cards even if you use that param when creating the card. (You’ll see a default READ_MORE value for the website_cta param.)

Here are the card details, which includes a value for website_cta:

$ twurl -H ads-api.twitter.com "/1/accounts/18ce53yltux/cards/website/2pwn3"
{
  "request": {
    "params": {
      "card_type": "website",
      "card_id": "2pwn3",
      "account_id": "18ce53yltux"
    }
  },
  "data_type": "card",
  "data": {
    "name": "Wandera 3 ",
    "image": "https://pbs.twimg.com/ad_img/804279888341569536/ZGSiXoA5?format=jpg&name=orig",
    "preview_url": "https://cards.twitter.com/cards/18ce53yltux/2pwn3",
    "website_display_url": "go.wandera.com",
    "website_cta": "READ_MORE",
    "id": "2pwn3",
    "account_id": "18ce53yltux",
    "website_dest_url": "http://go.wandera.com/T-Media2.html",
    "created_at": "2016-12-01T11:04:33Z",
    "website_title": "Free Trial",
    "website_url": "http://go.wandera.com/T-Media2.html",
    "updated_at": "2017-01-26T18:22:08Z",
    "deleted": false,
    "card_type": "WEBSITE"
  }
}

However, both in the timeline (link to Tweet) as well as in the preview we return, there is no CTA.

From where are you seeing the CTA?

#7

@juanshishido as per my first message, here’s what’s happening: we’re using the Twitter Ads API to report on our campaigns. We also provide ad previews in our reports and recently they are rendering with this CTA that we can’t remove or edit. We want these to render as per how they look on people’s timelines - with no CTA.

This is the JS file we’re using to generate the ad previews: platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Kako naj dam na twitterju javno oglasevanje? Nisem se nasla tega linka? Hvala za pomoc! Sabina Cvelbar

#9

@CvelbarSabina based on translation you appear to be asking about how to advertise on Twitter - please see https://ads.twitter.com for help with this - these are our developer forums for supporting the API platform.

#10

@juanshishido @JBabichJapan can either of you help with my request? I’ve been waiting for a resolution for almost two weeks. Please let me know what we can do to ensure our ad previews don’t render with the ‘read more’ call-to-action.

#11

@Iulia_Gh: Your best bet is to use the GET accounts/:account_id/tweet/preview/:tweet_id endpoint (example request, above).

#12

@juanshishido, we are using the Embedded Tweet JavaScript Factory Function to create the Twitter previews.
Calling the API has the following disadvantages for us:

  • Makes the loading of our reports very slow
  • Consumes API credits that sometimes lead to the disruption of our service

#13

@juanshishido, can you advise?

#14

@sali3ri: From the Ads API perspective, there are no issues with the CTA that have been identified. The guidance is to use the preview endpoint mentioned previously.

If you’re using widget.js and it’s not behaving as you think it should, please create a new topic in the Cards category to ask how you can customize it.
