Rate limit values not decreasing but still get errors for going over limit

We keep getting:
185 : User is over daily status update limit.

When I hit this endpoint: https://api.twitter.com/1.1/application/rate_limit_status.json
None of my limits are going down. I verified that I am using same key and secret as the production server.

We typically get these errors for 30 minutes. I see them happening about 1.5 hours apart for last 3 batches. If we are supposed to check rate limits before we make more requests, is the rate_limit_status.json the correct method?

We did apply for an increase to keep up with the flow we used to keep but have not heard back in a while. What is the typical turn around on limit increases or is there a place to see the status of the request?

First off, a quick clarification. The response to the https://api.twitter.com/1.1/application/rate_limit_status.json endpoint does not change with your usage. It is simply a tool to show you what the rate limits of different endpoints are.

There isn’t currently an endpoint that you can use to track your usage with any of the premium or standard APIs.
