Hey!

I was unable to find a way to directly message support, so I apologize for using the public forum.

I had a question regarding the the “Sensitive information” in the “More about restricted uses of the Twitter APIs” and wanted some clarification.

In the section, it states that you may not derive or infer this information, but later states that if it’s an aggregate analysis then that is fine.

I just wanted some clarification on the topic.

Is it possible to derive or infer this information if it’s at an aggregate level? By this I mean that there will be no way to derive or infer a specific user since the data will be aggregated.

I could not find this question previously answered, so I was just curious.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick -

Thanks for the question. If done at aggregate level it’s fine to use Twitter data to research topics like health, for example. But, as noted on our Restricted Uses page you should never use this data to target, identify, etc. individual people on Twitter.

Cheers,
Donald

Fantastic, thanks Donald!

Just one follow-up - it mentions to not store this at an individual level, does a tweet count as referencing a user?

For example, if I store the tweet_id alongside a description of health that was inferred (say obesity), is this in violation?

This was just a vague example, but want to be sure before doing anything to violate the terms.

Thanks,
Nick

Hey Donald, sorry for messaging again, but if you need clarification on the last reply feel free to let me know.
