To whom it may concern,
We are writing to respectfully request your utmost support to address the issue about BTS’ global artist Park Jimin’s hashtag or #JIMIN and the keyword JIMIN. After May 2, 2020 Jimin’s hashtag “#JIMIN” and his name (as keyword) “JIMIN” have both stopped showing as trending even when the number of tweets using his hashtag or name reach 1 million or more surpassing any other hashtag or keyword that shows as trending. This might be happening due to the Twitter algorithm that considers #JIMIN as no longer a unique word due to its high trending capacity and use and that Twitter algorithm considers the #JIMIN now as a common word requiring the #JIMIN tweet to increase its threshold. We have been requesting from you Twitter for the past 4 months to address the issue.
We will quote one of Jimin’s fanbases, @PJM_data, “This could be a good explanation of the issue we have been encountering with the #JIMIN. Say for example, the hashtag gets an average of 500k tweets daily, it’s not considered a unique event or a ‘spike’ in trends. However, let’s say it gets 1M in a day, will it now show as trending? Probably not, but if it gets 1M tweets in 1-2 hours consistently being tweeted, there is a chance it could show. Take note that these values are used just for example. So what can be done? Until you/Twitter decide that this is not a bug, we can only request for this to be a feature, which is honestly very hard to do. As developers, a user requirements of one instance could not be the sole reason for an entire Algorithm change. If they do, Trump, Obama, COVID-19 and other BTS members’ names would take up all of the trends. So now we get to the question why did Jimin show before? Twitter is not a faultless or errorless app. Just like other apps, it constantly improves. Before, we had reports that Jimin trended in multiple countries but with always the same amount of tweets (1.87M for 27 countries) seemingly to count the total tweets it is currently gaining. That’s where you/Twitter may have fixed/improved their algorithm on that. The BTS fandom is always growing so the threshold they may have imposed before to ‘hide’ common names may have been too low. To explain further, let’s say before you/Twitter put the threshold at 500K tweets, with the constant growth of the your/Twitter users, Jimin’s total tweets daily could have surpassed this and that’s why it showed us his name again. So in the future if there will be an instance where 1M+ people will tweet ‘Jimin’ in a short period of time (a spike basically) then there is a chance we could see it again in your/Twitter’s trends. As observed in our hypothetical data, ‘JIMIN’ seems to have reached the threshold for your keyword/trend algorithm. Please reconsider investigating the unique engagements and observable spikes that occurs when using the [#JIMIN]/Jimin keywords.”
Jimin’s hashtag should not be considered a common word but should be considered unique and exclusive to BTS’ Park Jimin. We humbly seek your support to kindly help see a work around to address the issue.
Please see screen shots of the issue below.
Thank you in advance,
ARMY

Thanks for posting this. Hope we receive a response!
And if twitter algo detects spike, shouldn’t it have trended? #JIMIN spiked last October 1, but it never occurred in the trending list.
As a point of comparison,
The keyword “Jungkook” trended on twitter during its spikes (purple) as shown in the screenshot. But in the case of Jimin, it was different. Despite seeing a spike on the usage of his name on October 1 (pink), it still never occurred in the trending list.
If possible we kindly ask for a response to this issue so that we know what is actually happened to the keyword and hashtag JIMIN that never showed up in trending list since months.
This is the trending figure of the two members for Oct 1, 2020. This is to inform the evidence of ‘Jimin’ and ‘#JIMIN’ disappearing from the Twitter trending list. Just look at the red box and you will understand. There are a lot of mentions of ‘#JIMIN’, but it was not visible on Twitter. Looking at the figures of the two names of the other member,‘Jimin’ will be over 2M. However, it has not even been counted since May.
This screenshot taken on Oct 1, 2020 also showed #Jimin was mentioned 765.6k times on that day but still the hashtag didn’t showed up on trending list.
Thank you so much.
