Problem with automatic mention detection

Hi!

My app automates crossposting between Mastodon and Twitter. When user’s statuses are longer than 280 characters I post a link back to the original status, much like Facebook does.
Mastodon’s links have @ in them. For the last month or more Twitter has been restricting write access to the app saying it has been posting automated mentions. There was a bug in the previous version which was allowing mentions to pass through unintended, but it has been fixed since and still every time write access is restored the app is blocked again.

I can’t get answers from Twitter support and it’s been sometime that I’ve been trying to get a response but I only get automated responses about how I’ve changed my app to stop violating rules.

I read the automation rules a couple of times and couldn’t figure this out. Is posting outside links unauthorized?

I did get in touch through the platform forms, but since the last block I got no response, negative or otherwise (even when the app had the rights restored).

I got an answer from the support through the platform forms, but they informed me that they do not provide technical support, so I’m posting over here again for the issue.

Basically, what I want to know is this:
The way the app works, if a status is bigger than 280 characters, then a link to the original status is posted. The links to Mastodon contain @, like in this case: https://mastodon.social/@Mastodon/100355741246446654

This last time, I’m pretty sure there was no mention being posted, but the app was restricted soon after one user posted a status bigger than 280 character, which contained an @ in the link.

So what I’m wondering is this: is this @ at the link also counted as a mention? If yes, why? it’s a link, starting with https, and it’s detected as so by Twitter API.

I do not want to enable the app again just to that a few hours later my users are again stopped from using the app once again. I would like to have a definite answer to decide what I’m doing moving forward.

It’s probably rather late to reply but… could you get a shortened URL from ow.ly or bit.ly or similar and use that as the link to the original post.

I rather not use yet another redirect as twitter already replaces the links with t.co ones, but thanks for the suggestion!
