Background

Hey Twitter team,

We operate multiple Twitter accounts as part of our business. As we’ve expanded the “family” of accounts (ranging from brand new to 150k+ followers), we’ve begun running into an issue where we require more phone numbers for verification purposes.

I’ve read in the Phone Number FAQ that:

You can add your phone number to up to 10 accounts.

I’ve also seen /u/andypiper describe a workaround using Google Voice and Twilio:

If you are unable to use an alternative means of adding a number (such as using a Twilio number or Google Voice, which are common workarounds used by others), and there are no mobile numbers you can use, then this is a bit tricky.

I’ve tried using a Twilio number, but continue to hit the following error message that says “Unsupported phone number.”

Questions

Is there any way to do any/all of the following?

  1. increase the limit for how many accounts can be associated with a single number;

  2. provide some clarity on how to successfully use a Twilio number for verification;

  3. otherwise help us get around the phone number requirement as we establish new accounts?

Final note

We sent an email into support@twitter.com but haven’t received a response yet. We were told by someone at Twitter that posting in this forum might be our best way to get clarity here.

Hey @PeterKimFrank,

Unfortunately we don’t have any workarounds for this. While most phone number tied to traditional phone plans can work with up to 10 accounts, there are limitations around Google Voice and Twilio numbers. I don’t have any recommendations other than for you to use the phone numbers of the clients(?) that you are working with.
