Per IP limit on user streaming connection

What is the per IP limit for opening user streaming connections ?

For all the authenticated users I want to receive tweets in their home timeline, and curate them manually to create a nice story timeline for them. There can be few 1000 users authenticated in my app, to start with.

They won’t let you keep more than a handful of User streams connected concurrently. This is in the User Stream documenation

I have not been able to find an actual number in the docs. If it’s there and I’m just missing it, can anyone point me to it? Otherwise, does anyone have a rough estimate of what that limit is?
