Old data access for researcher

I’m MSc student who is working on a project that require huge twitter data for text mining, what I’m looking for is a collections of tweets during specific time in the past.

Is that possible for researchers to get this data without using other third parties data provider?

We recently introduced a pilot project called Twitter Data Grants, through which we will give a handful of research institutions access to our public and historical data.
