as per René - Just test if the header Content-Encoding == “gzip” and handle the content appropriately, though what needs to be changed in your case depends on which language/implementation you’re using.

Thanks - this is helpful - but I am using the Hammock RestClient (RestRequest and RestResponse). I may have to rewrite most if not all my code to request an access token.

I can’t even re-create access token from the Application settings page on Twitter Site. Is something broken their as well.

People, is the third day that the API is failing me, still flashing when display tweets. Undoubtedly it is a problem of API, know when there will be some solution?

Just an FYI for folks, but I took the opportunity to start using the GET Lists and GET Lists/Members APIs and guess what: gzipped.

If you are going to do an app update, just make sure you cover all your API calls if you haven’t already.

I found a proper fix for those using Hammock.
If you are using Hammock for Windows Phone, grab the following fork https://github.com/GunioRobot/hammock which fixes an issue with GZip described here: https://github.com/danielcrenna/hammock/issues/47

When creating your RestClient, set DecompressionMethods = DecompressionMethods.GZip

If you are using TweetSharp, grab the source, and modify the _oauth initialization in the constructor to use GZip.

But i could not pass the stream in the Constructor as below .

While I don’t have an ETA when this configuration change will be reversed (hopefully today, but due to the holidays it might not be possible), now is a great time to ensure that the HTTP headers your client library or application sends are appropriate and reflective of the capabilities of your application… if you tell a server that you can accept gzip encoding, it’s best that you can consume that encoding.

We would like to enable gzip in the future, so it’s very important that your HTTP headers reflect your real world capabilities.

This is also a good time to review that:

you’re using proper versioned endpoints: api.twitter.com for all API and OAuth requests. /1/ before all resource paths.
you’re using SSL whenever possible
you’re asking for count values most appropriate for your application
using since_id in timelines that support it when polling

Our gzip encoding change has been reverted. Please let us know if you’re still experiencing issues with it.

We’d like to roll this change out again in the coming weeks with the expectation that clients declaring support for gzip encoding actually can interpret the responses they receive. Please ensure that your client reports its capabilities accurately.

Hi, I’m no developer but I guess this thread is correct to talk about this. I have trying access the official Twitter app for Windows Phone, Seesmic and even Tweetcaster. All of them are with error, I just can’t login.

Twitter Official App says my password or username is incorrect(WHICH IS NOT).
Seesmic just doesn’t login, shows up white screen.
Tweetcaster says “error calling Twitter”.

I can see my contacts updating their twitter status by the “what’s new” feature. But still, I just can’t use any Twitter app. Actually, searching on Google I could find some people with the same problem.

Often when this happens, it’s down to to the time being wrong on the phone. Twitter can be a bit picky about this.
