Not able to post 280 characters using RestAPI

I am using RestAPI to post tweets from my web application, in last month I read that 280 character limit is available only for few application. I tried to post more then 140 characters, twitter posted 140 character from my text with ever… at end.

Do I need to update anything while posting?

Are you passing tweet_mode=extended?

I posted a couple of 280 tweets via the API. The first was posted without tweet_mode=extended. The second with. Both posted the full 280 characters, but the response for the first did not include the full_text field, and therefore only had the truncated text in the response.
