Need widget to use alternate url, due to organization blocking Twitter.com internally

So we have a widget for our very large Organization that is going to be used internally for Employees. Some pages have our Twitter feed widget (with moderate traffic), and we’d like that to be updated in real-time. But, most of the organization has Twitter.com is blocked to prevent employees from accessing it during work hours. (Minus the Developers.) Is there an alternate url or an easy way to modify the widget to hit another URL that we can open up on the network side? Currently, Management (ugh) isn’t too crazy about opening up the entire twitter.com domain for traffic.

The only other real solution I’ve thought about is having a call to Twitter from a specific machine, and having it write the tweets out to a simple file. Then having our webservers reference this file every “x” minutes.

Yes, we are still pushing for Twitter.com to be opened up, organization wide.

Thanks.
