Trying to implement Twitter card with a large image on http://alumni.utk.edu. Our CMS is through iModules.com. I worked through iModules support to have the appropriate meta data added, but the Twitter card validator fails every time.
When I try a page on the validator with standard HTTP, I get this error —
ERROR: Fetching the page failed because it resulted in too many redirects.
WARN: this card is redirected to https://securelb.imodules.com/controls/login/sts.ashx?sid=1341&gid=2&returnUrl=http%3A%2F%2Falumni.utk.edu%2Fs%2F1341%2Falumni%2Finterior_alumni.aspx%3Fsid%3D1341%26gid%3D2%26pgid%3D7964
I contacted iModules about the issue, they responded with the following —
"The issue with the redirects stems from our sites using HTTPS instead of HTTP. If you try to use an HTTP address (http://alumni.utk.edu/s/1341/alumni/interior_alumni.aspx?sid=1341&gid=2&pgid=7966) as opposed to an HTTPS (https://alumni.utk.edu/s/1341/alumni/interior_alumni.aspx?sid=1341&gid=2&pgid=7966), our servers redirect the url to the HTTPS address. I’m guessing twitter doesn’t like this and rejects the card.
As far as the meta tags are concerned I could never get it to do more than tell me the request was successful but could not detect the meta tags despite the tags being there. It’s now telling me “ERROR: Fetching the page failed because other errors.” I suspect this is due to communication problems between Twitter and our servers, but that is outside the ability of my department to diagnose."
While iModules was trying to diagnose the issue, some bad meta data was added (from Twitter’s sample code). That is in the process of being removed, but we still have non-functioning cards.
Is there anything that can be done to get the Twitter summary working?
