Limitations of search and rest api

api

#1

Hi all,

I am a student with no coding knowledge and I am publishing a paper on Twitter. The sample data used in the paper comes from a tool that uses the Twitter Search and REST API to retrieve tweets.

One of the reviewers of my paper has come back with the following question: “what are the limitations of using the Search and REST API as opposed to using the full Twitter firehose?”

Could someone please help me understand these limitations, and how they might possibly impact my sample data? (My sample data are all the tweets published by certain companies since they joined Twitter).

Thank you very much!!

With the PUBLIC API you won’t be able to get tweets older than 7 days, and not all tweets are included because of there is too much.
With the PUBLIC API you won’t be able to get more than 3200 tweets poster by a user.
