.jpeg vs .jpg

The developer website states that JPG format is supported. I’m having issues when the file extension is “jpeg” whereas if I simply change the ending to “jpg” it works fine, even though the underlying format is both a JPEG image. Does the card validator work by simply looking at the file extensions?

That should not be the case, so long as the file type is served correctly by the web server.
