Ample heads up would be nice so we can migrate properly.
While I can’t speak for Twitter, I seriously doubt it would be retired anytime soon. It might get deprecated in the sense of no longer being updated, but it being actually removed from use is probably a long way off.
Too many big apps depend on it, and they’ll take significant time to migrate. Eventually they’ll be pushed into migrating, but still.
Besides, right now V2 doesn’t do a lot of things devs need it to do - e.g. there is no replacement for the home timeline, many endpoints have very restrictive limits in comparison to v1.1, etc etc. It seems unlikely that support for v1.1 would stop until that changes.
