Is it possible for the tweet buttons to be cached, so that they are not requested every time thus slowing down the website

On our blog page we have around 20 articles showing, each with a tweet button.

Each button makes a request to twitter to get the count. Is there a way of caching this, so that:
a) requests are only made every hour or so
b) so that I don’t reach any limits or requests per hour
