While I was trying to debug an issue I hate with iOS11 and UIActivityViewController, I discovered the following issue. For the purposes of this demo, I saved https://i.imgur.com/O7GAtbK.gif as test.gif to my Photos on my iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 11.1.2
and twitter version 7.12.1
Sharing an animated GIF via Share from Photos
- Photos
- Select test.gif
- Share Icon (Bottom Left)
- Select Twitter Application
Result: GIF is NOT animated in the Tweet preview form. Posting the tweet shows a JPG.
Sharing an animated GIF via Twitter
- Open Twitter
- Compose Tweet
- Select Photo option (Bottom Left button above keyboard)
- Select test.gif
Result: Gif is animated in Tweet preview form. Posting the tweet shows an animated GIF.
Reproduction of this issue on iOS 11 would be appreciated.
I could also use some advice on how to use UIActivityItemProvider and UIActivityViewController to share animated GIFs in Swift (iOS11)
