Input field for sending tweet from website

Just becoming familiarized with Twitter (been resisting). Anyway, I have a website with a form input field that needs to send the user-entered text, launches a pop-up that allows them to enter the Twitter creds.

Can someone just get me pointed in the right direction? The API at this point is a bit overwhelming for someone new and under some time constraints.

Did you end up figuring this out? I am looking to do the same thing. Take text from an input field and enter it as a tweet. I am a noob to programming, but I believe with the API this is possible.
