I want to get status onclick event of a button

I have a simple need. I just want to pass in a userid and get the latest status for that user in text form. I want to get that status when I click a button on the page. For the life of me, I can’t see where I can do that in the API. I am completely and utterly brand new to the Twitter API.

A user’s timeline contains their most recent tweets. The tweet in the first position is their most recent tweet or retweet.

To retrieve your own most recent tweet, use a call like https://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.json?screen_name=StephenDOliver&count=1&include_entities=true&include_rts=true

See [node:7286] from the field guide to know which part of that response contains the pure 140 characters of the tweet (it’s the “text” field of the 0th position in the collection you receive). [node:56] will tell you more about how to use the user timeline.
