I am seeking written clarification as to whether or not it is ever acceptable to share Twitter API keys. I am a student at a major engineering institute in the US, and my request for clarification arises due to a disagreement between myself and an instructor in a course I am taking.
One of the courses I am enrolled in includes a lab requiring Twitter API access. The instructor directed students to make Individual developer accounts to get API access. My application for Developer access remained pending for an inordinate amount of time, preventing me from completing the lab in a timely manner. A few other students had similar issues with their applications for Developer access. When these issues were brought to the instructor, every affected student (including myself) was offered the API key to what I believe is the TA’s personal, Individual account.
My understanding is that this is a violation of the Developer Policy and Agreement. The instructor maintains that this is an “academic account” that he is permitted to share access credentials to. To clarify, I have been given the API key to an Individual account (over my objections). This is not an Organizational account I have been added to.
Would it be possible to confirm that my understanding of the Developer Policy and Agreement is correct, and that there are absolutely no circumstances where sharing API keys is allowed? Thanks.
