I am looking for first name and last name inforamtion from Twitter. Its giving only full name.

For now it’s easier to create a simplified sign up form for just email, name, password than to Login with Twitter then request email.

Should be the same as Facebook. You have to ask for email as an extra permission. So if you’re app requires it you can ask for it, if not then it doesn’t. At least the option is there.

I wouldn’t say that it’s easier to implement simplified sign up form. You need to consider various things like password resets, captcha etc.
I’m not defending Twitter guys, it was their decision to not provide user’s email even it’s required to create Twitter account. Twitter authorization gives us access to user twitter’s functions and that’s why I’ll provide Twitter login in my website.

Email is useful for a lot of reason:

It avoid user typing data he doesn’t want to type (99.99999% of applications out there cares about e-mail)
It could be useful to build gravatar_url
User recognization couldn’t rely only on a screen name

If I want to register on an application, I want to be detected as me.
I want to see my avatar, I want to have notifications sent to my e-mail.
oAuth is splitted into two parts: Authentication & Authorization.

It’s a common practice to ask user Authorization to access their e-mail.

Please consider offering this opportunity.

We’ve just dumped the api… not worth the effort. We now have a “login with facebook” button only…
the decision to use twitter in the first place was to have as many login options as possible, but, considering the many days we spend developing and debugging a system to ensure u were logged into the same account if u hit the fb or twitter button, or logged in using username/password…the Twitter option was an epic fail.

After a user logged in via twitter, we even had a welcome page that requested the user to enter their email address… hello!!! Isn’t the idea all about “one click access”?

Anyway…we made a unanimous decision…just remove the twitter option. Problem solved.

Having the same problem. Need the email address, so I won’t create another account on my system. No email address, EPIC FAIL. I wasted one day trying to find out solutions for this. Now I have to let my client know that we cannot use twitter API for login.

But, does anyone monitor or bother to user requests on this page… I don’t see any security reason if email is allowed… Facebook is doing comfortable with extended permissions… For, its sure looks like a design flaw… Any genuine acceptable reason will be much appreciated…

LinkedIn felt the same way and “caved” this week [1, 2]. While I understand the power of being able to revoke application permissions and how returning an email address limits this power, it’s better for everyone. Please update this thread once you all decide to provide a truly outsourced authentication layer.

i DONTunderstand why you twitter guys are NOT DOING anything about this, we NEED the EMAIL, it is the most SIGNIFICANT part of the puzzle, asking the user to type in their email address after signing in with twitter is ridiculous
