How to get email from twitter user using OAuthTokens

Just add another step. When user logs in with twitter, after callback, ask for his/her email address (if it isn’t already stored), and send verification email. Simple as that.
I like that, email isn’t included in API calls. Just think from the other side, if you were building spam application, users can revoke access for the application, but you would still have their email.

The day twitter includes the email in the oauth response, is the day I add “Login with Twitter” otherwise, your service is useless. Your decision makes it impossible to use since we have no way to DE-duplicate accounts created by previous/other methods. Stupid.

Being beginner in web development this already feels like a lot, it is easier to implement Oauth for facebook and google, than for twitter. Have to be fighting over whether to verify the users email for twitter.

Yup, I was just working on implementation a Twitter login, then realize it would not return an email address… So I can’t compare that login and control double account creation ( 1 per email address ), so it’s worthless.

Twitter login will not be implemented. Will only be possible to link a twitter account if a facebook, google or custom account was made created prior to use any twitter features.

As for the “twitter is not linked to identity”, well email address either. I don’t see why providing an email address would be considered as linking an entity to a twitter account.

You know how many emails I have ? Lots. Yet, believe it or not, I’m just a single human.

There is a very straightforward solution to this everyone.

After your user successfully authenticates with Twitter, ask the user to very an email address within your own application. If they do not, don’t create a user account for them. Sure, it’s extra work that you don’t have to do with g+, fb, and others, but it is by no means a difficult thing to do. That way you end up with a verified email address and a twitter authentication account for the user.

I find myself here after implementing “sign in with twitter” only to realize I can not grab the email address. Luckily I only had to un-comment two lines of code (thanks Microsoft) to implement it. Looks like they are getting commented out again until this issue is addressed.

It’s quite clear why most sites I visit don’t use “sign in with twitter”.

This is an old thread, but maybe if we keep making noise the fine folks at Twitter will listen. Please add email to oauth, as it makes registration annoying to users who will have to complete that field manually.

One more vote in favor of including the email in the response; the initial twitter employee’s argument seemed weak, to say the least.
