Totally with everyone else on this. Twitter the answer is NO I will not give you my mobile number. This is messing me up at work as well as my own website. But I don’t give it to Facebook or the others either. Suppose you get hacked anyway? Then they can spam my phone too. And I have to pay for instant messages. Find an alternative, use security questions, whatever, because you flat out are not getting my phone number. I’ll drop Twitter and find some other social media first.

The worst part is that we can’t get into SECURTY settings without a phone. This is bad. my phone has a data only plan and I use VoIP for all calls. My carrier isn’t supported anyway.

This is ridiculous… No further notice, and they don’t even give a good answer on the reasons and what are the alternatives for those who aren’t able to verify the phone. Guess they want to make money with the mobile operators.

Why does this requirement even exist? The least you could do is not require a text account. I blocked them on my phone because everything I got was spam.

It seems this has not been removed yet. When will this nonsense go away. Can’t you validate people with simple automated phone call and code to be entered.

It seems that connecting to twitter from our website and fetching a list of our tweets now got a whole lot harder with this ridicoulous requirement.

Hi, All
I got this problem this morning, but I just found the solution. I install Twitter’s app on my smart phone(Android), and use the app to log in. Then the app will ask you to bind your phone.
I could create a new application, after binding!!!

Can’t believe this is still going on.

So to recap, some (most?) of us:

don’t have a smartphone
don’t have a supported carrier
long codes never worked (paid international sms for nothing)

I tried the Twitter iPhone App and in settings, there’s nothing about mobile phones at all, and unfortunately, no questions about binding the phone to an account.

Well, some progress - App creation now works again without a mobile phone. However, now I am unable to grant the App write-access without it. Same error message as before.

Again here, if the purpose is to block spam I wouldn’t mind at all to use any other methods (international long numbers for unsupported carriers) but those don’t even work…
