How to create an app without mobile #

I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of complaints. There is no way that requiring a separate mobile telephone number for each website that wants to add a twitter streaming widget is a reasonable security measure. Why can’t multiple accounts share a phone number and then I can have widgets for my personal twitter account and my company’s account and my other website’s account? If I am abusing any of the policies on ANY of my accounts then you can shut them ALL down at once - which makes your job of policing trolls even easier. Please, please reevaluate this policy and fix it.

I am a developer and each client wants to utilize Twitter. Not all of them have cell phones. So here we are stuck because I cannot proceed.

Maybe Twitter could create DEVELOPER permissions that would allow us to do this, many people would put more of our chips into their company.

Just adding my name to the list of developers who need to create multiple apps, but don’t have multiple mobile phone numbers.

If I missed how to do this, can someone please point me to the solution? Thanks.

I will skip my WTFs for trying to sort through this… I run a few education sites that tweet out a daily creative challenge, echo one a different twitter account. I am not quite sure this will work but I logged into the last account I added my phone number to in order to create an app and deleted my phone number.

Then I registered that number with a different account, just so I could hoop jump and create my app.

Now the question to see is if the app really requires a phone number cemented to an account to work or just as a hoop to jump through to set up.

Same problem as everyone else. Need to create app and register to use twitter API but the company I’m developing for only has landlines, no mobile phones. We’ve left several requests via the URL provided by the twitter staff posts above but even after a week have received nothing but the automated reply saying the message was received.

I totally don’t understand the restriction here… why do they have to have a mobile phone number? I don’t own a cell phone and have no interest in buying one. I just want to create a personal app I can use to post tweets and possibly more as I learn about the Twitter API’s capabilities.

I’ve emailed about a resolution but from reading these posts… I’m not optimistic this is going to be resolved in the near term.

I agree. Working with multiple twitter accounts and now hamstrung because my cellphone number is connected to my personal account (surprise, surprise!). Why do I need that to create a Twitter API for a non-profit I manage?

Twitter: Here me now. Do away with this silly rule. It does nothing but annoy.

Thanks for this feedback. We do hear it regularly and understand the request. At the moment there are no plans to change this, as it helps us to reduce the number of spammy and other bad actor apps that want to access the platform. We will continue to review the requirement.

I’ve added my mobile number to my Twitter account as required yet somehow it continues to display an error after I submit my application. I’m trying to have it allow people to login to my website using Twitter, but it just won’t see that I have added my number.

Any ideas?

We’ve posted an announcement about this issue. There’s currently a latency between adding a number, and creating an app.

If for any reason you are unable to add a mobile number at all, we have a support form that you can complete for assistance.
