We (OpenPlans) make an app that has tight twitter integration and tweets an @reply to each user that submits content through the application. What we’ve found whenever we launch a new deployment of this app (the last three times) is that the account is soon (i.e., the morning of launch) blocked for being spammy. This causes frustration for our users, as no one is able to sign in until we resolve the issue. Each time we’ve explained the situation and unblocked the app account, and it doesn’t get blocked again.
We are acting well within the TOS, as Twitter users will not get a message unless they take action in the app, or are mentioned by another user. What can we do to make sure that our app accounts do not get blocked in the first place?
