How can I make sure an image appears in my tweet when I post a link to an article?

When I tweet a link to an article about half of the time an image appears. The other half of the time no image appears and it is just my tweet and the link. How can I have an image appear every time I post a link to an article?

PS. Sorry I know this is beginner stuff

You have two options - attach an image to the Tweet, or ensure that the link you are adding to the Tweet has a Twitter Card defined on the web page itself. If you don’t control the sites whose links you are adding to your Tweets, you’ll be better off manually adding images to the Tweets as well.
