Historical sample with Full Archive Search API

Hi,

I was looking into the Historical Power Track documention and I found a “sample:” search operator which is not available for Full Archive Search queries. Is there any way to replicate what this “sample:” operator does with de FAS API?

Hi - unfortunately no, the Search API doesn’t have an equivalent to the ‘sample:’ operator for PowerTrack.

Can I ask what your use case is? If you can, we would simply recommend using Historical PowerTrack. Check our tutorial on one-off Historical PowerTrack jobs and here to initiate a Historical Powertrack job.

For my use case I’m extracting historical information abou Basel III reforms. I want to look over a long period of time (say 4 years), and when indictaing the range of dates, the results are biassed towards more recent periods. That is why I thought the sample operator that gives each tweet and equal chance of being selected would solve this problem. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Hi @brendapalg - there is no bias at all with regards to the order in which Tweets are returned. Tweets are always returned in reverse chronological order. So the first page of results will show the most recent Tweets that match the query and then you can use pagination to paginate through all the Tweets until you reach the first Tweet posted after the fromDate specified in your query.

If you’re seeing higher volumes of recent Tweets, that could simply indicate that the conversation surrounding Basel III reforms on Twitter have increased over time?
