getRequestToken() call in scribe returning a null request token suddenly

We have been using scribe 1.3.0 and oauth 1.0 for some time. Everything was working OK a couple of months ago. No changes were made on our side. Now, the getRequestToken() call returns a null request token. Has anything changed in the twitter API? Has anyone else experienced this?
